Abstract:

Autoimmune atrophic gastritis (AAG) is a chronic inflammation with atrophy of oxyntic mucosa due to anti-parietal cell and/or anti-intrinsic factor antibodies. Autoimmune atrophic gastritis is a preneoplastic condition that predisposes to type I neuroendocrine tumours and gastric adenocarcinoma. Guidelines recommend endoscopic follow-up of patients with AAG for the early diagnosis of gastric malignancies. There is evidence that some autoimmune diseases may predispose to the development of MALT lymphoma. In this study, we reported the first case of Helicobacter (H.) pylori negative AAG who developed a gastric MALT lymphoma. No other cases were identified by a systematic review of the literature.
