Abstract:
Recently, we treated a patient with cross-hypersensitivity reactions caused by piperacillintazobactam and imipenem-cilastatin sodium. The patient was a 36-year-old woman complaining of urinary urgency and increased frequency for one week and fever for one day. She was initially diagnosed with urinary tract infection. Following the administration of piperacillin tazobactam, the patient developed high fever, chills, and vomiting. After adjustment to imipenem-cilastatin sodium, the patient developed acute pulmonary edema. We believe that acute pulmonary edema was caused by cross-hypersensitivity to the two β-lactam drugs.
