Unveiling the Unusual: A Case Report of Traumatic Intubation Sequelae in Rhinoplasty Surgery

Abstract:

Intubation-related injuries, particularly dental trauma, can result in long-term complications if not immediately addressed. This case report presents a unique situation involving a 22-year-old female undergoing rhinoplasty, during which a deciduous tooth, avulsed during adenotonsillectomy at age 9, was unexpectedly located. The tooth was dislodged during a traumatic intubation, but it went undetected at the time, remaining embedded for 13 years until it was discovered during her rhinoplasty. This case underscores the critical importance of thorough preoperative assessments, particularly in patients with a history of childhood trauma. The unexpected finding highlights the long-term repercussions of medical procedures performed in youth and the need for heightened awareness during both routine and elective surgeries. It emphasizes the role of multidisciplinary collaboration in identifying and managing complications to ensure optimal patient outcomes. To our knowledge, no similar cases with such prolonged evolution have been previously reported, making this an exceptional instance of late-stage detection of intubation-related trauma.
