Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome in Patient of Postpartum Preeclampsia: A Case Report

Abstract:

Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES) is a rare clinical-radiologic condition, not commonly reported in the literature. PRES is an uncommon complication of preeclampsia/ eclampsia. The authors present a case of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome in patient of postpartum preeclampsia with unilateral papillary edema and pulsatile tinnitus, without seizures. The neuroradiological investigation observed the concomitance and/or development of a cavernous carotid aneurysm. Knowledge about PRES of postpartum patients is indispensable in everyday neurological practice. This condition should always be considered in pregnant with altered consciousness, visual abnormalities, increased blood pressure and headache, once seizures, as in our reported case, may be absent.
